The official sequence

Seven steps from applicant to commissioned notary.

    Complete approved education

    Six hours for a new or expired applicant; qualifying active notaries may use a three-hour refresher.

  2. 2
    Register with CPS HR

    Select a location, date, and time from the current schedule.

  3. 3
    Take the exam and submit the application packet

    Bring ID, application, photo, course certificate, confirmation, and payment.

  4. 4
    Pass, then complete Live Scan

    Keep the completed form copy and ATI information.

  5. 5
    Wait for background and application processing

    Use the current official processing page.

  6. 6
    Receive the commission packet

    Review the start date, filing county, certificate, and seal authorization.

  7. 7
    File oath and $15,000 bond within 30 days

    The deadline cannot be extended.
